Caswell State Park

Last Saturday this Momma needed a family afternoon away. There were piles of things waiting to be cleaned and lessons to be finished but I wanted to remove us all from home and into an environment where all we had to do was enjoy each other. We researched local state parks and settled on a park south of Modesto. We packed a lunch and the car and headed out. The phones GPS led the way… to a golf course. Hmmmm…

What to do now? Luckily the car has a GPS and we looked up the nearest State Park. Caswell, huh? Never had heard of it, but it was better than a golf course! We hit the road again with two three year olds in the back wanting to know where the picnic was. What a pleasant surprise Caswell was! Shady, with a river and swimming areas, plenty of day use picnic tables, grills (which we didn’t use), lots of walking trails, and a camp-ground.

We enjoyed our lunch (though I knew the big kids wouldn’t eat much) and a long walk. The kids all seemed to enjoy being outside and we enjoyed a few hours without yelling! We will definitely be returning!

Backyard Fun in the Sun

Boy, this week has been a regular California heat week! All summer it has been unusually cool, and we have LOVED it. This week we invited our friends over one afternoon to play in the water. The kids all had such a fun time. The babies played in cookie sheets full of water- what a hit! The big kids ran through the sprinkler, rode the tricycle through the sprinkler and… wore a bucket on their head..??? They thought this was the best part of all! Silly little loves. We all had so much fun that I can’t wait for another hot, lazy summer day!

When I Get Bigger and Bigger…

At least once a day Hayden will say, “When I get bigger and bigger I will…” followed by his desire of the moment. Here is a list of some of the things he will do when he gets ‘bigger and bigger’:

  • Drive a car
  • Drive a bus
  • Drive an airplane
  • Drive a boat
  • Drive a semi-truck
  • Be a Boy Scout
  • Ride a big boy bike
  • Drive a Motorbike
  • Drive a tractor (he got to do this for his birthday and felt very big!!)
  • Drive a firetruck
  • Drive and ambulance
  • Drive a train

Do you see a trend? Besides ‘be a Boy Scout’ and ‘ride a bike’, all the kid wants to do is drive cool motorized things. Oh, he is a boy, isn’t he?
