Isn’t Hayden getting so big??? He was such a big boy while I was sick, and a huge help to Daddy and Grammy. He loved his singing balloon and his book and videos from Grandma Lanae and Grandpa Jerry.
So here’s the update and the WHY I am sitting in a hospital bed on my son’s 2nd birthday. I woke up Saturday with chills, high fevers and vomiting. I seemed to get better for a few days- meaning high fevers without the chills and vomiting. Then Tuesday I woke up worse than before. It is really disconcerting to be so out of control of one’s body. We went to the family doctor, since the OB’s office said ‘it’s probably the flu, we will just send you to your family doc.’ He said ‘it’s a UTI, here’s a prescription.’ We went home and I got worse. Finally around 8pm Craig said ‘Enough!’ The fever had stayed over 104 for 4 hours and I was shivering and vomiting regularly. The ER doc thought a UTI was an oversimplification. You think? So they admitted me with a Kidney infection (dumb, I know!). They had to ice me down to get the fevers down. That was an interesting experience. The high fevers were causing an elevated heart rate in the baby, as well as contractions and we didn’t want a 6-week early girl. So cooling blankets and sodium magnesium later they finally won the battle. When Tylenol started controlling the fevers on Thursday night we all wanted to celebrate.
So if I look a bit puffy and more than a bit high, that is how I felt with that Magnesium in me. It was an awful feeling, but it stopped the contractions! Thank goodness. I think in the future I would rather not become familiar with the maternity ward for something so non-baby! The experience with the nurses was great (I am so glad I will be delivering there in a few weeks), the view from my room was amazing and the doctors diligent. All in all, I am so glad to be home and on the mend. Thank you to my sweet family and all of the those dedicated nurses and doctors!
