Rain, Rain, Go Away
Submitted by Jennie on Mon, 12/15/2008 - 3:40pm.
It's been raining for the last 12 hours or so, so everything is very, very soggy. I let Hayden go outside between drizzles this morning. He got good and muddy and was happy as a lark. Unfortunately when he came back in he was very muddy. I was busy mopping the kitchen floor. The door was left open (not saying whose fault that was) and in trooped a muddy boy and his (grandad's) dog. From start to finish it took 2.5 hours to get the kitchen clean this morning. It didn't help that Hayden did not understand why he could not go back outside and so stood at the door crying for an hour. To be honest, I didn't mind one bit that the floor was mopped three times, or that Hayden wanted to play outside. I just chalked it up to Mommy memories.
Anniversary Trip
Submitted by Jennie on Mon, 11/24/2008 - 10:18am.The first picture on our new camera:

What a trip it was! We had all kinds of adventures. The Hokanson kind of adventures, that is. The kind where we get lost, wander seeminly aimlessly and find little treasures in spite of ourselves.
Here is our tale. To start out we headed to Pier 39 because I had a surprise for Craig there. I was taking him on a sunset sail around the bay on a catamaran. Okay, so it was only my idea. I certianly wasn't sailing the boat by any means! So we got there and had a late lunch at the Sea Lion Cafe. They had some really good food. Then we shopped for awhile. Craig was a trooper. I was looking for a zippered hoodie, but in true Jennie fashion debated for hours before I bought the first one I looked at. Jeesh.
Look for it!
Submitted by Jennie on Sat, 11/15/2008 - 11:07pm.Craig and I just returned from an early anniversary trip to San Francisco with our new camera! Just a teaser and it's off to bed. I'm bushed. Look for a more detailed account with lots of pics in a day or two.

We had a great time on the water!

The Boy Who Still Loves Olives
Submitted by Jennie on Tue, 10/28/2008 - 11:00pm.Last week Hayden ate everything in sight, and
then asked for more. This week I can't get him to eat anything on his
tray. He just begs and begs for my food, even though it is the same
food he has been offered. Tonight he cried and begged and I ignored
him, figuring if he was really hungry he would eat his own food. It
worked... for a few bites (I will say the chicken was good and my ego
has taken a brusing). I have also instituted the rule "If he asks to
get down, he gets down and he is done eating." This saves some Momma
frustration during the after-meal clean up.
Contention
Submitted by Jennie on Sun, 10/26/2008 - 10:27pm.I dislike contention in any form. I don't like shouting, I don't like ugly words and I DONT LIKE IT disguised as a 'discussion'. To me it means people are shutting down and refusing to listen in order to make themselves out to be a victor of some sort. NO one actually is the victor. No wonder I could never get into Debate in high school. I think it would have just made me cry. Don't get me wrong. I pick my fair share of fights with Craig, but we both end it quickly and apologies are quick in coming. There are two sides to every debate. I need people around me who are willing to see both sides for who and/or what they are. That does not mean one must change- only understand.
A Day of Drama
Submitted by Jennie on Sat, 10/25/2008 - 11:42pm.You know the kind. The day hits 10AM and you think "When does it end?" By noon you wonder if you should just hide in your room. At 3PM you wonder if you are dreaming because horror like this only happens in dreams and in the movies. By bedtime you have to take a sleeping aide to forget all of the other things you have forgotten to fix/address/pay/clean. Yup. We had one of those days this week.
In Search of Pleasure
Submitted by Jennie on Thu, 10/16/2008 - 10:50am.I have finally heard it. This week someone within my hearing said, "I think the purpose of life is to get as much pleasure as you can before you die." The first thing that came to my mind was 'Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die.' (2 nephi 28:7) I thought, "How horrible. Gluttony is certianly not the point of our existence and only breeds discontent."
Then I began to think about the fact that we are supposed to enjoy the time we are given here on this earth. So, how do these two philosphies fit together? Or do they?
The thought occured to me that both the natural man in us and our spiritual selves have desires. The natural man craves the carnal, the sensual, the endorphic (not bad for a made-up word, eh?). So what does the spiritual man crave? He craves the creative, the uplifiting, the giving. Both seek to feed self, but one desires to give back as it is fed.
